How to use portable skills

A portable skill is a folder plus a SKILL.md file the agent can load. This page is the job: what it is, when it runs, and when to open the shop page versus a working browser tool. Install, uninstall, edit, and update live in sibling guides.

What a portable skill is.

A skill is a directory that contains a SKILL.md file — YAML frontmatter with a required name and description, then instructions the agent follows. That matches the Agent Skills specification. Optional scripts, references, and assets sit beside that file.

A prompt is one-shot text you paste. A browser tool on this shop is a page you operate yourself (preview, export, copy). A skill teaches the agent the procedure so it can run that job in Cursor, Claude, Codex, and other hosts that load the folder. A slash command in the same catalog is the same idea: you invoke it by name; the file still lives as a skill or command the host already understands.

When the agent uses it.

Hosts read the description and decide when the skill is relevant — you do not need to paste the file every time. Claude also lets you invoke it directly with /skill-name (the command comes from the folder name). Cursor lets you type / in Agent chat and pick the skill. Write the description in the third person: what it does and when to use it.

Where to get Tiny Design Shop skills.

Start on the Skills hub. Each card’s Get skill button opens the companion shop page for that pack — copy or download from there. The same pack also lives on GitHub and the public listing at skills.sh. Those two links are crawlable; they are not the primary CTA.

When to open the shop page versus the browser tool.

Open /skills/<pack> when you need to install, copy, or download the skill. Open the matching /tools page when you want to run the job in the browser — Ghost Wireframe Generator, Launch Checklist Prompt, or Responsive Preview. Pack-only skills (bake-the-brief, design-lint, adjust-logos, diy-harness) have a shop page and no browser tool.

Install, how-not-to, browse the hub.

To put a skill on disk, use How to install portable skills. To avoid treating the hub as a working tool or installing twice, read How not to use portable skills. Then browse the hub.
